FROM FOLKS TO FONTS

AIMS

> Surveying espontaneous, accidental or ingenuous design processes on public places.

> Producing experimental contents of typographic nature from the surveyed material.

1. Stages
a) Photographic survey.

b) Analysis, selection of pictures and (taking sides) action.

c) Design of typographic proposals.

2. How to work?

Typographic designs developed from the surveys can follow the originals "to the letter", as well as reinterpret them globally, or pick out some characters and on that basis configure a new font, or carry out any other typographic experiment.

3. Roles
The roles proposed to be assumed by the participants are two:
a) SURVEYOR, who discovers, picks out from a context, and photographs a design according to the features described in this project.

b) DESIGNER, who, from the selection of a picture, can develope a typographic font or any other experiment of typographic nature. Each participant can perform one or both roles, indistinctly. Each surveyed picture will be incorporated to SANTOTIPO’s database, thus being exposed so that it can be chosen by other participants to work on it. In this way, several people can work on the same picture, and produce different results.
All the typographic experiments will be shown as soon as their authors submit them.

COSTS
SANTOTIPO will be responsible for the costs of organization, publication and difussion of the finished works.
