| ARRANQUISMO
(TEARING-OFF-ISM)
A review of the urban custom of tearing graphic pieces
(posters, notices) from the walls, and a related artistic
proposal.
DESCRIPTION
The popular custom of tearing off pieces of printed
communications from public places generates countless
new situations of communication spontaneously.
In our daily vision of the urban life, this social phenomenon
is assumed as «a part of the landscape»,
thus remaining unnoticed.
ORIGINS
This urban custom has diverse origins: from political
purposes to mere fun, or simple cleanliness.
LOCATION
This social phenomenon takes place with particular
intensity in big urban centres, as the city of Buenos
Aires and its surroundings. |

PROPOSAL
The kernel of the Arranquismo (tearing-off-ism)
project consists of noticing spontaneous communication
actions, framing them, and giving them the category
of a work of art.
RULE
The golden rule is not to touch the graphic pieces.
Never to produce an Arranquismo. Just walk, perceive
and rescue them.
WISH
If most of the people who inhabit this earth
shared this review, the dirt and untidiness seen nowdays
on the streets would be understood as an urban artistic
process, shaped into huge and complex murals.
It is a matter of codes.
Those who tear graphic pieces from the walls would be
artisits; passers-by would be art critics.
